Are there any repercussions for ditching a car at the airport?
Li asked:
I have a coworker who is emigrating to Europe and he still has an old piece of junk Honda that he couldn't sell. He's planning on ditching his car at the airport parking lot. He would be overseas by the time authorities realize that he's gone. So exactly what would happen?
Hey! It's not my car.

It will be towed off, held in impound till they determine the owner can't be located, and auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Why ditch it though, there are places he can donate it to and get rid of it with no hassles, like a community college that needs cars for Auto Mechanics classes, etc.

Ask him if you can have it and scrap it out, extra money in your pocket and thats what would end up happening anyway…

I am guessing that your coworker or yourself are uneasy about this apparently pointless mischief. So what's the purpose of your question — are you worried about personal consequences to the plan? Is bad karma alone not enough to stop you?
My advice is not to burn your bridges. Instead, consider having a junk yard tow the car away for free, or donate it for parts to a charity. Then take a cab to the airport.
