Can you still sell a car without a pink slip?
Mar asked:
I've been trying to sell a car I acquired about 4 months ago, and now that I have a buyer, I realized that I never received my pink slip from it. Is it possible to still sell him my car tonight for $500 (it's a piece of junk) if I just use a Bill of Sale or a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability? Or is the pink slip absolutely necessary?

THE NEW OWNER WILL NEED A BILL OF SALE TO TAKE TO THE DMV AND APPLY FOR A LOST TITLE. I HAD TO DO THIS ONCE.

MIght help to know what state you are in. In Georgia if the vehicle is a 89 or older then the answer is No Title Required. I do believe Georgia has the most liberal laws concerning that. You could basically steal any car, bring it here and get a title for it.

If the DMV records show it registered to you it will be no problem. Just more paperwork than usual.

Sure you can sell it — but the buyer has to be an idiot. For all the buyer knows, you stole the car.
