What kind of car should I get?
metch asked:
I'm a new driver, looking for a used car under $8000, preferably under 100,000 miles. What kind of car is reliable and will last. I don't want just any piece of junk. I'm thinking Japanese cars are the way to go, but I really don't know anything about cars whatsoever. Help!

any type of Honda made car would be great for what you are looking for….they are great on gas and rarely mess up…i have two of them, both older models (88 and 90) and neither one has ever given me any trouble…

My daughter bought a Nissan Sentra for 5K- she drove it for years, sold it to her brother, who drove it a few years, and now the youngest has it. They keep replacing parts but it still goes.
My Volvo was more pricey but at 250,00 miles, still runs fine.
We have also had a bunch of Toyotas that get good mileage and are good cars.
A guy I know swears by Suburu- and he commutes huge miles.
Check out Kelley's Blue Book ratings for cars that need few repairs, have few recalls and get good mileage.

A good option for a used car would be to get your self a car that is 3-4 yrs old from the current date.. and about 40-70K miles on it. You can try the Japanese cars as they are more reliable.. you could try in for Toyota corolla, Honda Civic. They are reliable and worth the money for the long term
